Latin Bible in Two Volumes

ca. 1250-1280

This two-volume Bible of 683 leaves, with 81 miniatures illustrating scenes of the Creation, is a remarkable example of late 13th-century Parisian Gothic production. The text, with the ruling still visible, is laid out in two columns beneath a title in blue or red ink and embellished with fine coloured filigree and phytomorphic motifs decorated with fantastic animals.
