Roads of Arabia: Archaeological Treasures of Saudi Arabia
Hosted by Louvre Abu Dhabi, with artefacts from the UAE
8 November 2018 to 16 February 2019
A crossroads of trade, culture and religion. A path for merchants, travellers and pilgrims. A bridge for civilisations.
Explore the fascinating story of the Arabian Peninsula from antiquity to modern times in this remarkable exhibition of archaeological masterpieces and important Islamic art from Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
Meet the earliest human communities known to have lived in the region; journey across deserts and along coastal routes to discover the earliest trade and cultural exchanges created by the ancient maritime and caravan trades; travel the ancient pilgrim routes that brought fresh life to the peninsula from the 7th century and finally discover the developments of the 20th century and the relationship between tradition and modernity.
Originally developed in 2010 by the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage and the Musée du Louvre, the exhibition has been displayed in 15 cities across the world. Roads of Arabia: Archaeological Treasures of Saudi Arabia presented at Louvre Abu Dhabi integrates a selection of objects from the UAE, illustrating the dynamism of recent archaeological research in the Gulf.
