Royal Ballet of Cambodia - Metamorphosis, a tribute to Auguste Rodin

11, 12 December | 8pm
Price | AED 100
Location | Auditorium Plaza
Duration | 90 minutes
Recommended Minimum Age | 8+

One of the most refined dance traditions in the world, apsara dancers of the The Royal Ballet of Cambodia, use soft and graceful gestures to enchant the audience with their elegance as well as their symbolic costumes. The troupe will perform ‘Metamorphosis’ in a tribute to the great French sculptor Auguste Rodin, who was famously inspired by an encounter with the ballet in 1906. To be true to Rodin's time, the Royal Ballet will preserve the styles of the period, from the gestures and costumes to the white make-up that covers the ballerinas’ bodies.

This elegant and symbolic tradition of dance was almost lost to the world during the repressive rule of the Khmer Rouge in the 20th century. The Royal Ballet has regained its former splendor under the artistic direction of Her Royal Highness the Princess Norodom Bhuppa Devi, daughter of the King Sihanouk and has become one of UNESCO’s Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.

A special thank you to the Musée Rodin and to the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
