Let me [state here] simply that encyclopedic museums
are a means of dissipating ignorance about the world
and promoting inquiry and tolerance of difference itself.

At Louvre Abu Dhabi, we have been fortunate enough to entirely build a new
collection, one that reflects our objective to inclusively represent civilisations past
and present, thereby inscribing our institution in the tradition of encyclopedic
museums. The works in our collection do not simply advocate the notion
of tolerance in their vast diversity of origin and meaning. Our visitors are
encouraged to look and observe through the eyes of others, nurturing a greater
understanding of the world around us and how it came to be. Interweaving
both local and global stories, Louvre Abu Dhabi presents a universal account
of human development through a carefully curated selection of 600 objects
on display. This publication highlights 45 such objects, including some of our Highlights of the Collection
latest acquisitions.

generations – a transgenerational investment that contributes to the ongoing
establishment of national heritage in the United Arab Emirates. Indeed, Louvre Abu Dhabi
