A Burmese Delegation at the Mughal Court
ca. 1815-1820
The Mughal court in northern India was a cosmopolitan centre where a stylistic vocabulary was developed under the combined influences of local tradition, the world of the steppes and Islamic culture. This page from the Fraser album shows a Burmese embassy visiting the Mughal court in a style very characteristic of Western art. The artist precisely depicts the specific dress of each figure in accordance with their differing ranks.
