1900-1800 BCE
Steatite (?)
Department of Culture & Tourism , Abu Dhabi
AM 4500 | approx. 2 cm

Discovered off the coast of Abu Dhabi, this seal, representing an animal in profile, probably belonged to a merchant from Dilmun (today Bahrain), who came to stock up on the coasts of the Emirates. Its existence is indicative of the dynamic trade in the Gulf at the end of the 2nd millennium BCE.
