Tray
1898
Henry Van de Velde
Henry Van de Velde (1863–1957) knew how to exploit the ductility of metal. While the handles seem to detach and curve before our eyes, each side bears a finely worked and stylized plant motif. With its sinuous circumference animated by a dynamic line, this tray can hardly be regarded as an inert object of everyday use.
